Generating traffic to your blog - part 3
Social bookmarking sites can be a great source of both links and traffic.
Let me take a minute to explain what social bookmarking sites are and why they can get you traffic.
Social bookmarking sites started as a way to keep your bookmarks on line and to share them with your friends. Now if you have been using your computer for any length of time I am sure you have added to your favorites or bookmarked some of the sites you visit regularly.
Social bookmarking sites work about the same way with a few exceptions. You can save a site but you will need to add some keywords and a short description. This you can then share with the general public. They can vote them up or down depending on how useful they feel they are.
This allows other members of the site to search for things by the keywords and find what others have thought about it before clicking through. They also have pages that show what’s new, what’s hot etc.
Get a post on the first page of what’s hot at a site like Digg and you can get a lot of traffic.
Now a couple of caveats in using bookmarking. Make sure that you are bookmarking sites of others too. After all this is things that you find worthwhile. They can’t only be your posts. You will get classed as a spammer and may lose your account.
One of my favorite tools is to use a service called onlywire that will allow you to bookmark 18 sites at once.
There is a lot more to using the social bookmarking sites and one of the best resources that I have found for traffic in general and bookmarking in particalar is Traffic Manifesto from my go to guy for this topic Ross Goldberg.
